Former Macon County Elections Official Turns Self in

MACON COUNTY, N.C. -- The former Board of Elections Director in Macon County has been arrested.

Kim Bishop turned herself in to Asheville Police on Monday.

She is charged with five felony counts of embezzlement.

She was indicted on the five state charges last week. And also on Monday, Bishop pleaded guilty in federal court to one felony count of converting to her own use the property of another.

Bishop resigned from her position in May 2014 after investigators discovered dozens of fraudulent checks came from her office totaling more than $50,000.
