LiveWell: Frank Kracher
Updated: Friday, February 28 2014, 10:32 AM EST
My “Live Well” story involves the Traumatic Brain Injury that almost took my life, and how a 35-year career in the television news business became the focus of my recovery.
The TBI was caused by a fall on June 28, 2006. I hit my head on the floor, the impact splintered a bone, and an artery inside my skull exploded.
I was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency brain surgery.
My physical healing happened quickly, but psychological issues from the TBI were much more difficult.
My initial goal became simply getting back to normal, but then I wanted to push it further.
I had an opportunity to return to anchoring and reporting at News 13 WLOS.
“I think you were taking a risk, but you were also determined”, says Karen Keating of the “Brain Injury Association of N.C.”, who has been supportive in my effort.
I now look forward to celebrating the 4th anniversary of being back on the air!
Thanks to all the family, friends, co-workers and News 13 viewers who have helped me make a successful return.
