Over the next few months, here at news 13, we'll be talking about what good health means to us and encouraging you to "live well."
News 13's Julie Wunder tells us how she "Lives Well"!
Julie says, for her, living well means finding a good healthy living balance and sharing her story on her blog, running in a skirt.
Julie, "when I started running about five years ago, I couldn't run a quarter of a mile without stopping. I worked my way up to finishing a 5k, 10k, 15k, a half marathon and eventually a full marathon. I did ballet through college, but I never considered myself an athletic person. I've just learned that I feel better when I work out. Running is my stress relief and resets my mind after a long and crazy work day. I love running so much I even started a blog to share my running story during my training for the Chicago Marathon in 2012. Running In A Skirt has evolved and now documents my workouts, favorite recipes and attempts to lead a healthy balanced lifestyle. I strive for it to be a positive place on the internet. I hope even one reader will see something I've posted and smile or be inspired to try something new and challenge themselves. I love sharing workout and running tips I've picked up along the way, like doing yoga and other cross training workout DVDs in addition to running. It keeps me balanced with fewer injuries. I often will scan other healthy living blogs for circuit workouts and use YouTube to find new yoga stretches. My diet is pretty simple, follow an 80-20 diet, eating clean and healthy food about 80 percent of the time and allowing splurges about 20 percent of the time. That means I'm usually cooking plenty of meals during the week. I'm always trying something new and experimenting. If my new creation turns out super tasty and delicious... I might just take the time to photograph it and share it on Running In A Skirt."
