Shuler Says "NO" to Health Reform Bill
Mountain Congressman Heath Shuler says he will vote "no" on the healthcare reform legislation. Shuler released a statement saying there is no question that our current health care system is broken, but this bill does not reform the system in an equitable, fiscally responsible or sustainable manner.
The congressman says tens of thousands of constituents shared their views with him. Leslie Boyd went to Washington, D.C. several times to meet with Shuler.
He told me once that his constituency didn't want this, and I told him your constituency didn't want civil rights either. Sometimes what people want is not what's best for them and a leader has the courage to do what's right.
The organizer of the Henderson County 9-12 Project was thrilled with Shulers vote, I hope this is really a commitment on his part, and we absolutely know voting no on this bill is the right thing to do for the American citizens.
In his Friday statement, Shuler says it's his responsibility as a congressman to filter through the emotion, misinformation and politics surrounding this issue and do what is best for western North Carolina and the country.
