Changes at a local family diner has sparked concern among its faithful customers.

Cornerstone Restaurant has closed it's doors and is undergoing changes. And a lot of customers are wondering what's going on at the restaurant that is an institution for some.

"Has the Cornerstone Restaurant on Tunnel Road gone out of business?" Elizabeth Betsy Stiles wrote to Ask 13.

The Cornerstone has been like a rock in the community for some 20 years. When folks learned the doors were closed and started seeing construction, they got nervous.

But owner Dean Barlas said the restaurant isn't going anywhere.

"We've been open for about 20 years now, so it was time for a change and a little bit of a remodel," Barlas said. "But we still want to stay Cornerstone Restaurant. And, you know, it's been 20 years now, so it's time for an update. And we're really excited, and I think everybody here's going to really like what we've done."

Barlas said local craftsman and vendors have been enlisted to create a rustic but modern look. And there will still be lots of stone work at the Cornerstone. Barlas said most of the menu will remain the same with a few updates. He said the restaurant will still strive to provide simple food for regular people at good prices and with great service.
