Ask 13: How big is North Carolina's education system?

North Carolina's public education system is an enormous institution, but how big is it really?

Daniel Morton sent Ask 13 a very straightforward question: "In the state of North Carolina, how many teachers? How many students?"

News 13 went to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for the answers.

Vanessa Jeter, the director of communications, said there are 94,421 teachers and 1,459,852 students in North Carolina. This number includes charter and public schools.

That works out to about a little more than 15 students for every teacher statewide.

Just in case you were wondering, actual class sizes will vary, but these numbers provide a statewide average.
