Rumors have been swirling about a popular fast food burger chain opening at the former Applebee's location on Hendersonville Road.

Cook Out has two locations in Asheville. Could another be on the way?

The private, family-owned company originated in Greensboro in 1989, and today, they're expanding like wildfire.

"Months ago someone posted here on Facebook that Cook Out will go in the old Applebee's on Hendersonville Road, but there's been no construction on it yet," Bryan Hensley wrote on the News 13 Facebook page.

Applebee's management said the restaurant was closed because of declining business.

The only activity at the old restaurant now is graffiti. There's no sign of construction or plans for a Cook Out anywhere.

A check with Cook Out headquarters confirmed the bad news. A spokeswoman said the company has no plans for a store at the Hendersonville location.

And, unfortunately, there's more bad news. News 13 reported last December that Cook Out was working on a restaurant in Hendersonville on Highway 64. But, officials now say the company is no longer moving ahead with those plans, even though they were submitted to the city.
