Could Buncombe County Schools be making some pricey improvements? One viewer reached out to Ask 13 to find out.

All of Buncombe County's high schools currently have synthetic turf fields that were installed in 2005 and 2006.

So, why would they need new turf fields?

News 13 went to Buncombe County Schools where District Athletic Specialist David Ball confirmed that all of their turf fields are being replaced.

"The life expectancy is eight to 12 years, in terms of what they told us originally. We've been able to get 10 out of one of our turf fields and 11 and 12 out of the rest of them by the time they are replaced," Ball said.

Buncombe schools have already replaced the turf at Owen, Erwin and A.C. Reynolds high schools at a cost of $1.3 million.

Work to replace T.C. Roberson's turf will be completed July 20. The cost there will be nearly a half million.

North Buncombe and Enka High Schools are expected to get new turf in the summer of 2018.
