On August 25, 2014, the Asheville Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Charlotte Street and Woodfin Place. The collision was reported at 9:03PM.

A 2004 Toyota pickup truck was being operated south on Charlotte Street by John Zabriskie, 49, of Asheville.

A motorcycle was being operated north on Charlotte Street.

Zabriskie attempted to make a left turn onto the I-240 E onramp but failed to yield right of way to the motorcycle, causing the pickup and motorcycle to collide.

The motorcycle operator died on scene. The name of the motorcycle driver is not being released until notification has been made to the victim’s family.

After consultation with the Buncombe County District Attorney's Office, investigators with the Traffic Safety Unit charged Zabriskie with Felony Death by Motor Vehicle, Driving While Impaired, and failure to yield right of way.

Zabriskie was held on $25,000 bond.Fatal Crash Investigation
