Fire Prevention Week

The most common source for house fires is something
easily preventable. The theme of this year's National Fire Prevention
Week is "Get Cooking' With Fire Safety." Kitchen fires are
the source of 43% of all house fires.
This morning, News 13's Victoria Dunkle met up with Asheville Fire
Department PIO, Kelley Klope to find out how we can avoid these fires.
Klope says never leave cooking unattended, use back burners if you have
children in the house and turn the handles
of pots and pans in so they don't hang over the edge of the cook top. Klope is also taking the Children's Fire Safety House to area
schools throughout the month of October. The goal is to lower the
national average of seven deaths in house fires each day. Click here to find out more about Fire Prevention in the kitchen, throughout the home and even outside your home.
