Trips for Kids

Cycling is becoming a vehicle for lessons in confidence,
healthy living, and environmental awareness. And it is through the work
of Stephen Janes, Director of Trips For Kids WNC. This morning he showed News 13's Victoria Dunkle how the chapter gets
kids onto mountain bikes and into our mountains. Trips for kids teaches
the basic cycling skills, bike maintenance, and leads rides. The
chapter has led 1,500 rides since its start three
years ago. To help kids afford bikes and support the chapter, Janes opened The
Bicycle Thrift Shop in Biltmore Village last year. He accepts "dusty,
but not rusty" donations of bicycles, parts, cycling clothes, shoes and
accessories. Then he refurbishes them and
sells them at a discount.
