Obesity has slew of health dangers
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
Studies show nearly 40 percent of adult Americans are now obese. The condition slows people down in more ways than one.
Becca Dion began seeking help at Mission Weight Management just over a year ago.
"It doesn't take 50 to 100 pounds, just 10 pounds, 15 pounds," Dion said of weight loss. "I was immediately feeling the difference, and I was able to get off the medications."
Charts show that being overweight stands to shorten your life for a variety of reasons.
"We often see high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, reflux -- those are some of the conditions that can be associated with obesity," Charley Messenger, a physician assistant at Mission Weight Management, said.
Experts confirm losing just 5 percent of your body weight can be life-changing when combined with better eating and exercise.
