Scalp tattooing offered locally

It's not easy to describe what's going on at Top Scalp Micropigmentation in Hendersonville.

"A lot of people say it's like a scalp tattoo," explained Ray Diaz, RN, the owner and clinician. "For lack of better terms it's a form of tattooing, but it's more on a medical scale."

"There's a little bit of pain there, but it's bearable if you want to do the process," client Kim Stanley said.

Diaz uses organic and carbon-based pigments to replicate follicles, often on bald men.

"It does give you a hairline, it does," Diaz insisted. "It will fill in your crown and any balding area you have, and give you a hairline back."

The procedure can give the appearance of a head that's deliberately shaved.

In some cases, the process can create a different illusion.

Before and after photos show Kim is having success making her thinning hair from lupus appear fuller.

"It's hard because I like to wear my hair back, and I had two small gaps in this area, and it's allowing me to wear my hair back again," she said.

Most clients require anywhere from two to three sessions. The average cost is between $2,700 and $3,000.

But clients said it's a small price for renewed self-confidence.

Micro-pigmentation is considered a permanent cosmetic procedure so insurance will not help with the cost.
