Shoulder surgery debuts nationally at Pardee Hospital
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
ExactechGPS recently made its national debut for shoulder replacement surgery at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville thanks to orthopedic surgeon Richard Jones.
"It's a way we plan pre-operatively using computer software, and then we take that software to the operating room and it guides us through the surgery," explained Dr. Jones, who is training other physicians to perform the surgery.
"They told me I was the first one in the United States, and I said, 'That's great!'" laughed patient Ronald Haynes Sr., who required the surgery after a workplace injury.
"The computer can reproduce the 3D image in the OR to help us with implantation," Jones said.
That means because of more precise measurement ahead of the time, there's a better fit resulting in increased function and longer durability.
"It fits perfect," Haynes insisted. "It seems like that's where the less pain comes in, you know."
Typically, insurance will cover the cost of the ExactechGPS for shoulder replacement.
