1 dead, teen driver charged with death by motor vehicle in Madison County wreck

UPDATE: Eighteen-year-old Mackenzie Francheska Schronce has been charged with DWI.


A Tennessee woman is dead and a teen driver is charged in a Madison County head-on collision that happened Sunday afternoon.

Troopers say the wreck happened at 2:03 p.m. on Highway 25-70 a little west of Marshall.

Eighteen-year-old Mackenzie Francheska Schronce of Maiden, N.C. was driving a 2008 Honda east on Highway 25-70 when she crossed the center line and struck a 1994 GMC 4-wheel drive extended cab truck head on.

The driver of the truck, 54-year-old Keith Pagel of Sevierville Tennessee; Sandra Kay Lindsley, 63, of Parrotsville, Tennessee; and Pagel's two grandchildren, aged 4 and 6 years, were all transported from the scene for medical care.

Lindsley and one other person were taken away by helicopter for medical care.

Sandra Kay Lindsley succumbed to her injuries after transport.

Schronce, the 18-year-old driver who troopers say crossed the center line, was also transported to the hospital and was treated and released Sunday night.

On Monday, the teenager is in custody in the Madison County Jail for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, and driving left of center.

Schronce acknowledged to troopers that she fell asleep at the wheel. The accident is still under investigation.
