Asheville police have arrested four people after two shootings at the Deaverview Apartments -- one Thursday night and one Friday afternoon. But police don't know if the shootings are connected.

The shootings happened less than 24 hours apart. Authorities said they don't know who fired the shots, but they arrested four people in connection with Friday's shooting, and they are being questioned. Police are also questioning a woman who was injured in a scuffle between the people in the two cars. The woman is at Mission Hospital.

About an hour after Asheville police put out an alert for a dark green Honda Accord, officers pulled over a car matching the description at the Shell gas station on Patton Avenue. Four people were inside.

"It doesn't happen every day, but, on most days, we have officers who, while they're out diligently looking for them, they find the vehicle, and then we conduct our own investigation after that," APD Lt. Mike Lamb said.

For about another hour, the car sat with all four doors and the trunk open.

"We also found a gun inside the vehicle," Lamb said.

The gun and the people from the car are believed to be tied to the shooting about two miles away at Deaverview Apartments.

"All four people, we believe, are the suspects in the shooting. And we're also talking to a victim at the hospital, but we don't even know if she was shot," Lamb said. "We're still doing our preliminary investigation, just talking with her. And we're also processing the vehicle at Mission Hospital which has bullet holes."

Lamb was talking to one of the four people arrested, hoping to learn if the afternoon shooting had anything to do with last night's shooting at the same apartment complex. A 50-something-year-old man was shot in the chest.

"We're definitely looking at the two to see if they're related. Since we're in the preliminary stages of the investigation, we don't know for sure, but there's a good possibility, I guess, that given the area, that they could be related."

Police are asking anyone who has information to call the APD at 828-252-1110 or Buncombe County Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050.
