"You will not go quietly into the night, because today is your graduation day!"

That was actor-director Bill Pullman in Swannanoa on Saturday, channeling his role as fictional President Whitmore in the movie "Independence Day."

Pullman gave the commencement speech at the 2017 graduation for Warren Wilson College.

Pullman's two sons both graduated from the school, in 2012 and 2015.

He said the values Warren Wilson instills make it a special place. Pullman stayed after the ceremony, to take photos with seniors and their families.

About 140 students graduated.
