Asheville Police ID suspect in hit & run, ask for help finding him

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Asheville Police need your help finding a suspect after a hit-and-run crash Monday night.

The Asheville Police Department asks for help locating Corey Ryan Miller of Brevard. Miller is described as a white male, 23 years old, approximately 6’3” and 210 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

"We aren't describing him as a threat to the community, but we do ask that people not approach him," said Christina Hallingse, the APD's public information officer. "And if they see him or know his whereabouts to please call AOD or Buncombe County Crime Stoppers."

Police think Miller was involved in an incident Monday night in which they were called to the intersection of Tunnel Road and New Haw Creek Road around 8:30 p.m. following a crash.

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department was already on scene and advised that they had observed a verbal domestic disturbance on the off-ramp from I-240 W to Tunnel Road.

While deputies were attempting to investigate the disturbance, the suspect sped away in his car, crashing into another vehicle on the wrong side of the road.

The suspect then fled on foot.

The driver of the vehicle that was hit was transported to Mission Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

While searching for the suspect the Asheville Police Department received a report of a breaking and entering in progress on New Haw Creek Road. The victim reported that a man, matching the suspect’s description and providing the suspect’s first name, had broken into her vehicle and assaulted her.

Officers from both agencies saturated the area and conducted an extensive search to locate the suspect.

Miller currently has five open warrants in connection with Monday's incident:

  • Misdemeanor interfere with emergency communications
  • Misdemeanor injury to personal property
  • Misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger
  • Felony breaking or entering a motor vehicle
  • Felony hit and run injury

Miller is also an absconder from probation for multiple offenses and felonies including larceny, assault, and drug possession:
