Asheville residents say Billy Graham left his mark on area

"He's a great man. He did a lot for the community. I mean, everywhere you go, there are places named after him," Kyle Mullens said.

The Rev. Billy Graham is a household name, known nationally and internationally. But when word of his death spread Wednesday morning, it hit North Carolina particularly hard.

Graham was born in North Carolina, and he made the mountains his home. Some folks in Asheville said they grew up watching Graham on TV, and others said they met him in person. But each said Graham touched his life.

"We're going to miss him. He's done so much for the state and the nation and let the record speak for itself," Bobby Johnston said, getting emotional while discussing Graham.

Kyle Mullens said Graham would be sorely missed.

"He's a great man. He did a lot for the community. I mean, everywhere you go, there are places named after him," Mullens said.

Condolences also poured in on Facebook and Twitter.
