Ask 13: Is a Dollar General being built on Howard Gap Road?
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
A construction project in a small community in Henderson County is raising some concerns.
People who live along Howard Gap Road, near Brookside Camp Road, have a tight-knit community. When land clearing began at this intersection, resident Elsie Worthing contacted Ask 13 to find out what's being built.
The clearing is taking place just off the road. It's primarily grading -- no structure is on the lot yet.
Elsie reached out because she heard it might be a new Dollar General store. That worries her because she fears it could cause some traffic issues on Howard Gap Road, which is just south of Park Ridge Hospital.
News 13 reached out to Dollar General to find out if the rumors are true.
"I'm excited to share with you that Dollar General is currently under construction on 651 Brookside Camp Rd in Hendersonville, North Carolina," Angela Petkovic, a spokesperson for Dollar General, said in an email. "At this time, a grand opening is slated for early 2018, but understand that construction progress may alter this date."
Petkovic said meeting customer needs is their top priority when choosing a store location. She said they have a focus on convenient locations, but said they also take into consideration demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns.
Dollar General plans to hire between six to 10 people for this new location, and anyone interested can apply for a job online.
