Ask 13: What's the plan for the older shopping plaza in Arden?
ARDEN, N.C. (WLOS) —
A local furniture store is joining a number of other businesses that have moved out of an Arden shopping plaza.
Carolina Furniture Concepts is leaving the older strip mall on Hendersonville Road, and one viewer is concerned about the plaza's future.
"I am wondering what the plan is for the old BI-LO building and the old strip mall that Carolina Furniture Concepts is moving from since the Pizza Hut is also moving?" DJ, of Arden, wrote to Ask 13. "Looks like a great place for some low-income housing for Buncombe County."
The Arden strip mall is beginning to look like a ghost town. Carolina Furniture Concepts will soon move to a location on Airport Road. Beef 'O'Brady's is all that's left there.
So, what will happen with the property?
Some have suggested a new Ingles Market may be moving in.
News 13 contacted Ingles, which owns this property, to find out.
"We are considering our options for the next use of the space once Carolina Furniture Concepts vacates," Chief Financial Officer Ron Freeman said in an email. "Beyond that, we typically do not comment on our real estate activities until we are visibly working on a project."
So, at this point, what happens next is still up in the air.
As for the neighboring grocery store property across the road, it has a "For Sale" sign out front. Ingles has not been associated with this property, and News 13's attempts to reach the owners were unsuccessful.
