Troopers: Man charged with DUI after car ends up in KOA campground lake

SWANNANOA, N.C. (WLOS) - A man was arrested after troopers say he either drove or pushed his mother's car into a lake at a KOA campground in Swannanoa, off of Highway 70 and Lytle Road.

Twenty-year-old Anthony Pitts Jr., of Leicester, is charged with DUI in the incident.

Troopers say he fled the scene after the car went into the lake Sunday night.

They also say Pitts' blood alcohol level was 0.34, more than four times the legal limit.

Campground workers say the Pittses were regulars at the KOA who had never caused any problems.
