Western North Carolina is in for a very cold night, with lows dropping into the upper teens. Winds will come down some, but Thursday will remain breezy, making the high in the mid 30s feel even colder. Friday and Saturday will be dry and slightly warmer, with highs in the lower 40s and lows in the lower 20s.

Then a blast of Arctic air comes on New Year's Eve. The morning begins in the teens, with highs only reaching the lower 30s. There is also a slight chance of light snow late Sunday and Monday. Plan on ringing in 2018 in frigid conditions, with lows dipping into the mid teens by day break on New Year's Day. Monday night will be the coldest night yet, with lows reaching the single digits by sunrise Tuesday.
