Wildlife officials say a body has been recovered from Fontana Lake, where rescue crews had been searching for a possible drowning victim.

N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission officials said Rodney Quinton and Stan Woodard were trying to tie their boat off to a friend's pontoon on May 11, 2018, when Quinton heard a splash and Woodard went missing.

Wildlife officials say Quinton moved around the boat in an attempt to find Woodard, but was unsuccessful.

Rescue crews located a body 139 feet under water by sonar on May 12. A dive team unit used a robot to recover the body on May 13.

The body has been taken to the Graham County Medical Examiner.
