It was a super science lesson at the Western North Carolina Nature Center.

The kids loved it so much, they were howling with delight

Students from Brevard Elementary School were trying to communicate with the wolves.

They learned that each wolf has its own distinct voice, just like humans.

"There is only 400 red wolves in the world left," said Holmes, a Brevard Elementary student.

The field trip is part of the students' science lesson. They're learning about the life cycles of plants and animals.

Some of the kids told Tammy this is the best way to learn, and they loved seeing the animals up close.
