A new resource to help victims of domestic and sexual violence opened in Transylvania County. The Transylvania County Family Resource Center held its grand opening Tuesday.

Victims can go to the center for supportive services or to meet with whatever agency they need.

Organizers said the center is a response to the domestic violence cases the county has recently seen.

"We've had four homicides related to domestic violence in one year, and so a group of concerned agencies came together and said, 'Wait a minute, this isn't acceptable in our community,'" Susan Huter, of SAFE Inc. of Transylvania County, said.

Organizers said the center will give victims a place to meet with detectives, lawyers and other local resources.
