Troopers identify woman killed in crash on I-40 near Black Mountain

A single-vehicle crash Saturday morning on I-40 Westbound near Black Mountain killed a woman in her late 20s, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers the woman who died in crash as 29-year-old Amanda Brigman of Caldwell County.

A child was also in the vehicle and has been transported to the hospital. The extent of the child's injuries are not yet known.

The crash happened shortly after 8:15 a.m. near Mile Marker 61. An officer with the Highway Patrol told News 13 the woman's vehicle hit the center guardrail before she over-corrected and hit a tree down the embankment on the shoulder.

Both lanes of the highway were closed for just under an hour according to alerts from the Department of Transportation.

As of 10:48 a.m., all lanes are back open.
