BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. -- The National Park Service says a criminal investigation is underway on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Craggy Gardens.

Buncombe EOC says there was a 911 call for a missing hiker around 1:30 p.m. A caller said her friend went off the trail, had a service dog, and then a search began.

Dispatch said the missing person was located and taken to Mission Hospital.

Crews on scene saw park rangers looking at a white car as well as a car parked off the parkway where fire trucks were.

The park service would not disclose the extent or nature of the hiker's injuries and would not say how the hiker was injured.

News 13 has requested the 911 call to find out more about what happened and are waiting to hear back on that request.

The park service would not disclose whether there is a suspect they're looking for or if there is a threat to the public.
