A Fairview woman was arrested and charged after officials say she sold false insurance policies.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance said Ginger Lynn Cunningham, 36, is accused of presenting herself as a title insurance sales agent, writing false title insurance policies and receiving payment for those false policies.

On Monday, Nov. 5, 2017, investigators with the North Carolina Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division executed a search warrant at the Blue Ridge Title Company at 2270 Hendersonville Road in Arden. Authorities say items were confiscated from the business relating to claims of title insurance fraud by Cunningham, the business owner.

Cunningham is now charged with one count each of embezzlement by agent and obtaining property by false pretense.

The state department of insurance said she was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center and released on a $10,000 bond.

Authorities said this is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be added.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance also said they are working with the underwriter of the policies to ensure that coverage is extended to the policy holders involved as fully as possible.
