Emergency personnel are visiting local schools throughout the mountains to talk with students about fire safety and awareness.

Kindergarteners at Claxton Elementary School are learning how to get out of their home safely in case of a fire.

Asheville firefighters are visiting the students as part of Fire Prevention Week.

They talk about how to call 911 in case of an emergency. They even see a firefighter dressed in turnout gear, which can be scary for little kids.

Students also learned the importance of escaping a home fire quickly and making sure everyone knows the "meeting place" outside the home.

The firefighters also took the time to reassure the kindergartners that emergency personnel are always on the job and that if they need help, someone will come to their house.

This weeks fire prevention theme is "Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out."
