This story contains the full eleven-minute interview from Monday, July 31, 2017 with the three people accused of harboring Phillip Stroupe II as multiple agencies sought to find him, and of being accessories after the fact to the first-degree murder of Thomas Bryson of Mills River.

"I hate that they found (Thomas Bryson) not alive," says Frederick Badgero in the interview. He, his girlfriend Jennifer Hawkins, and Hawkins' nephew Larry Jay Hawkins III are all charged.

"When Stroupe come to our house, we was going to be in the same situation as (Bryson) if we didn't help," said Larry Hawkins.

Jennifer Hawkins says that the three are not guilty of harboring an escapee because, she says, Stroupe had bonded out.

"We did what we thought was right in the moment, with a gun on him, being in my house with a 14-year-old kid in there, as well," she said.

The earlier full interview with Jennifer Hawkins and Frederick Badgero Jr. is here.

The three continue to maintain their innocence in the face of the charges, saying that Stroupe, who was armed, forced their cooperation by threatening them with violence. The three say they did not call 911, because they felt police would not believe them.

On Thursday, the home where two of the suspects lived burned down in a fire that authorities are investigating as arson.

According to documents, authorities searched the home before it burned down.
