The Henderson County Board of Commissioners accepted grant money for studies on extending Oklawaha Greenway to Flat Rock and Fletcher.

About $120,000 was awarded by the French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The studies would look at extending the greenway from Hendersonville's Jackson Park to Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock and Hendersonville's Berkeley Mills Park to Westfeldt Park in Fletcher.

"It's important, because these greenways give folks the opportunity to be out exercising and connecting with parks in Henderson County, gives them an opportunity to get their kids out and go for a ride," Henderson County's business and community director John Mitchell said.

Mitchell said those studies could be done by March or April.
