Students at one Henderson County school are showing their love for veterans, by taking it to the hoop.

It was students versus staff for a friendly game of basketball--but the students are going to need many more of those two-pointers before this game is over.

Students and staff at Flat Rock Middle used the court to say "thank you" to veterans, with a fundraiser for Blue Ridge Honor Air Flight.

Students say it's their way of giving back.

"I think it feels like we're doing something because they sacrificed so much for us, and we're just giving them what they deserve," said James, a 7th-grader.

Staff members at the school were also recognized for their military service.

The school raised more than $550 during the event .

And congratulations to the school staff members--they won the game, 68 to 42.

But the most important thing is that everyone had fun, and veterans were honored for their service
