Jackson County man found not guilty of statutory rape
JACKSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) —
A jury has found a Jackson County man charged with raping a 14-year-old girl not guilty on all counts.
Twenty-six-year-old year old Cody Jenkins faced one count of statutory rape and two counts of statutory sex offense.
Investigators say he attended a party almost three years ago at the former Dillard's Excavating in Sylva.
They say underage drinking took place. Court records state that the 14-year-old girl had jello shots.
She says in the court documents that she went to Jenkins' home where they had sex. Jenkins denied that in testimony this week.
The prosecution pointed to inconsistencies in Jenkins' statements to investigators.
