Sheriff's deputies are investigating after three people were found shot and killed in North Cove in what authorities call a double murder-suicide.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as 39-year-old Kacey Case Haney, 49-year-old Christopher Scott Childres, and 48-year-old Jeffrey Dale Haney.

Authorities said Jeffrey Haney is the estranged husband of Kacey Haney. McDowell County Sheriff Dudley Greene said it appears Jeffrey shot and killed Haney and Childres before he shot and killed himself.

Officers responded to a home on Lonon Lane in Marion on Wednesday morning after receiving a phone call from an unknown man who reported a possible shooting.

When deputies arrived, they said they found the bodies of Kacey Haney and Christopher Childres inside the home. Jeffrey Haney's body was found outside the home.

“Our investigation is very much ongoing, but, at this time, it appears most likely that Jeffrey Haney may have shot the other two then turned the gun on himself after making the call to 911,” McDowell County Sheriff Dudley Greene said in a release.

According to the McDowell County Sheriff's Office, Kacey Haney took out a domestic violence order against Jeffrey Haney in 2015. They said the order either expired or was dismissed that same year.

Kacey Haney was State Farm insurance employee. State Farm sent us this statement: "We are shocked to learn of this tragic event involving one of our own. Our deepest sympathies go out to those close to the victims."

Neighbors also said they were shocked by the incident. Beverly Foster has lived in the neighborhood her whole life.

"It's a peaceful community, and we don't have anything like murders here," Foster said.

The sheriff's office said agents with the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation are assisting with the investigation.
