Local crews continue to head south to lend Texans a hand

"It's very nice to be able to hand that person a hot meal and support them emotionally. It's my way of giving back to the community," said Dee Besecker, a Red Cross volunteer. (Photo credit: WLOS staff)

The Red Cross is sending crews and supplies from all across America, in the aftermath of a disaster that's hit many thousands of Texans.

"It's very nice to be able to hand that person a hot meal and support them emotionally. It's my way of giving back to the community," said Dee Besecker, a Red Cross volunteer.

Local crews continue mobilizing for the trip down to Texas, to help the many victims of Hurricane Harvey. The Asheville Red Cross chapter sent a second group of volunteers out Sunday morning.

Some are flying, but many will be on the road to Houston throughout the day--a long drive. They say there's a human connection on the other end that's well worth it.

If you'd like to donate to Harvey relief efforts by the Red Cross, text the word "Harvey" to 90999 to make a $10 gift.
