Crash that injured Macon family turns deadly as teenage son dies

A crash that happened last Monday on Highway 441 near Sanderstown Road in Macon County has turned deadly.

Four people were hurt after a man pulled into the median to get a ladder that had apparently fallen out of his truck. Another car slowed down and was rear-ended.

John Tastinger and several of his children were hurt in the incident.

News 13 has learned that his 13-year-old son, Shane, died on Friday from severe brain trauma.

Shane's funeral arrangments are still being planned.

The father, John Tastinger, Sr., 43, was at the wheel in the wreck. At last check, Tastinger was at Mission Hospital with a severe concussion.

His daughter Matilda suffered a broken arm and leg. A son, John Jr., has minor head injuries.

Thirteen-year-old Shane had life-threatening brain trauma.

He and his father were airlifted to Memorial Mission where Shane underwent surgery but remained in critical condition.

John Tastinger, Sr. is Macon County Sheriff Robert Holland’s brother-in-law. The sheriff is asking for prayers.

John's brother Tom, who runs Tastinger’s Floor Covering in Franklin, said the family has a GoFundMe account set up to help with expenses.

“If you could please help, it's going to be a long journey ahead for the family,” he said. “If you could help them out, we would, as a family, we would really appreciate it.”
