Mission Health considers moving helicopter from Angel Medical Center
FRANKLIN, N.C. (WLOS) —
Mission Health is considering re-positioning its medical helicopter currently based at Angel Medical Center in Franklin.
Mission Health said Angel sits below the fog line and as a result can't fly up to 40 percent of the time because of unsafe weather, including clouds and storms.
Mission said it has been exploring land options for the helicopter in Macon and surrounding areas to improve patient support.
But Franklin mayor Bob Scott said the helicopter is needed at Angel.
“The fact that we have ground fog and it could go somewhere else and be above it. But remember, you've got to land in that fog, too. So, really not sure that that's a real valid argument,” Scott said.
He said Mission has already eliminated labor and delivery at Angel. He said as services are cut, the helicopter is needed even more.
Mission saids its focus is always to ensure the safest, quickest and most reliable transport of patients.
The hospital has not confirmed a new location.
