A morning rockslide has shut down a stretch of an Asheville road.

Both lanes of Emma Road in Asheville are blocked between the intersections of Bingham Road and Craven Street. Asheville Police and the DOT are on the scene.

Officers say the rockslide happened just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. They say nobody was hurt.

Crews on scene believe the recent weather likely caused the slide.

For those who use this route as a cut-through, it’s a hassle.

“This is a road that’s heavily traveled for folks that live in this West Asheville community. To get down to the river, to access River Arts, to get from here to downtown. A lot of the local traffic is very familiar with this,” said Lieutenant Jonathan Brown of the Asheville Police Department.

The slide will likely take a few hours to clean up. Drivers should use Patton Avenue as a detour.

We’ll keep you updated on the cleanup effort.
