Panel selected for WLOS Town Hall

Asheville, N.C. - The panel has been selected for the WLOS Your Voice/Your Future Town Hall: "Repealing Obamacare: What Next?" The forum will take place Thursday, February 9th at the WNC Ag Center in Fletcher. from 8pm-9pm. Our panel of experts will take your questions and share insight into the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. The Town Hall is free and open to the public. The panelists are:

1. Cody Hand: Senior Vice President, Government Relations and Deputy General Counsel for NC Hospital Association

Cody is the North Carolina Hospital Association’s Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Deputy General Counsel. He serves as the Association’s lead lobbyist advocating and coordinating hospital advocacy on behalf of North Carolina’s hospitals before all three branches of state government. Cody joined NCHA in 2012. Prior to working at NCHA, Cody worked at the North Carolina State Senate as the Chief Policy Advisor to President Pro Tempore Phil Berger and also practiced law with his wife. Cody received his undergraduate degree in International Business Administration from Angelo State University in San Angelo, TX and his law degrees from Texas Wesleyan University (Now Texas A&M University School of Law) in Fort Worth, TX. He lives in Cary with his wife Kara, an attorney, and daughters Emmie and Maryn.

2. Jaclyn Kiger: Managing Attorney for Pisgah Legal Services

Managing Attorney with Pisgah Legal Services (PLS), a nonprofit legal aid law firm serving Western North Carolina. PLS provides civil legal advocacy to help low-income individuals and families meet their most basic needs for housing, safety, health care and income. As Managing Attorney, Jaclyn oversees the organization’s Health and Income Program, Justice for All Project, Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyer Program, ACA Health Navigator Program and HEALS Medical-Legal Partnerships. Her legal advocacy focuses on access to health care and public benefits law, and addressing the social determinants of health through civil legacy advocacy in the engagement of medical-legal partnerships. She has been active in the implementation of the Affordable Care Act through the NC Navigator Consortium since October 2013 and has presented both locally and nationally on ACA issues.

3. Mary P. Williams: JPS Vice President of Healthcare Services

Mary has over twenty years’ experience at JPS, with healthcare as her primary industry focus. Previous to this, Mary was in practice for 12 years in the metro Washington, D.C. area. She has comprehensive knowledge in tax advisory and compliance services, providing innovative consultation to physician and dental practices, as well as other ancillary health care entities. Her extensive work includes serving many healthcare practices in the region. She has successfully directed multiple engagements involving integration of practice entities, compensation design/modeling, recruitment package design, succession planning and transition, and financing negotiations. In addition, she has significant experience in employee benefit plans, income tax and financial consultation in a variety of non-healthcare areas. Since the enactment of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, Mary has directed the firm’s efforts in implementation of health care reform, and has lectured extensively on the subject. Mary has earned the distinction as a Certified Medical Practice Executive through the Medical Group Management Associate. She brings high energy and skillful knowledge to her clients. Mary particularly enjoys communicating with clients and ensuring positive collaborations are in place.

4. John Wingerter: Director of Health Insurance Information Services for the Council on Aging of Buncombe County.

In this role he oversees both the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) for Buncombe and Henderson Counties as well as a Navigator program under the Affordable Care Act. The SHIIP program provides assistance to those on Medicare while the Navigator program provides assistance to people of any age seeking health insurance in the national health insurance marketplace in 11 counties in Western North Carolina. John has over 30 years of experience in the field of health insurance and employee benefits.
