Pedestrian safety plan for Maggie Valley’s Soco Road
MAGGIE VALLEY, N.C. (WLOS) —
A pedestrian safety plan moves forward for the main road through Maggie Valley in Haywood County.
Town leaders approved $35,000 thousand dollars in design funding. Last summer, the town received a $2.4 million grant from the DOT for traffic calming measures along Soco Road.
The plan calls for modernized crosswalks, caution lights, and also bike lanes.
“What that does is it narrows the lanes down a little bit, which naturally is going to slow people down a little bit without having to force them,” Alderman Mike Eveland said.
Eveland said it will take three to five years to complete.
