On the coldest night of the week, an event in Hendersonville is helping bring awareness to a big problem here in the mountains -- homelessness.

The historic courthouse in downtown Hendersonville is the site of a sleep-out, an event meant to raise awareness of homeless children in Henderson County.

Participants will sleep outside to raise money for Only Hope WNC, the homeless and at-risk youth shelter in Hendersonville.

"I think it's a good way to raise awareness. It's like in the middle of Hendersonville, so it shows a lot of people here what actually happens if they don't know what's going on in the world, especially because it's really cold at night and those kids need homes," high school student Hattie said.

Those sleeping out will stay there until 8 a.m. Saturday.
