Tuesday evening, the wife of Phillip Michael Stroupe Sr. spoke out about his court appearance.

Stephanie Stroupe said she believes her husband's bond should be lowered.

"I attribute it to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office wanting to make a statement," she said.

"He’s a good man. He would just never involve himself in something like this," Stephanie Stroupe continued. "He never helped (Phillip Michael Stroupe II) escape."

Henderson County District Attorney Greg Newman said the elder Stroupe's charge of accessory after the fact of murder is a serious charge.

"Because it's an accessory tied to a murder charge, it's a high level felony, it carries a tremendous amount of time," Newman said. "Given the circumstances of what we have to deal with here, the bond is appropriate."
