ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- One of the largest projects in the history of ABCCM is starting to come to life.

An announcement on Wednesday at the Hampton Inn in Asheville outlined the Transformation Village. The village is set to be built on a 24-acre property near Rocky Ridge Road.

The goal is to give homeless women, children and families safe transitional housing.

"Our city and county both have talked for months now about this being the number one need, to provide affordable housing," Scott Rogers, ABCCM executive director, said. "This will be 100 percent affordable because ABCCM doesn't charge."

ABCCM is hoping to break ground on the village in late summer or early fall. The organization has reached nearly 50 percent of its fundraising goal.
