ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- There is a free program that is offered for adults with infants and toddlers in Buncombe County.

The 45-minute Play and Learn class is underway in West Asheville, where parents and their children come together for fun and learning activities.

This group, designed for parents and children aged 3 to 12 months, meets once a week.

Together, they participate in a number of activities that help the parents discover the way children learn in an 8-week series of adult-child activities to discover the way children learn through play.

"They sometimes will not want to come to the carpet at first, because there is so much stimulation. But then what ends up happening is the longer they are in the program, the more classes they're in, they realize that they want to come and sing the songs and hear the story," said group leader Grace Ragaller

"Since I stay at home with her, it's just a nice time for her to get to be around other kids, and so I've noticed a change just as far as her socialization skills," said participant Kelly Ragland.

Class is coming to a close, and so is this eight-week session.

Another session begins September 13 and runs through November 1.
