After pulling plans to build 231 apartments and 30 town homes on Overlook Road in Buncombe County, the developer has proposed a smaller development for the space. The new plans call for 98 single-family homes. However, neighbors aren’t ready to celebrate.

“It's a major subdivision. It's not insignificant,” said Shannon Reese who lives across from the proposed development.

Her biggest concern remains an increase in traffic in an already busy area.

“It's still a lot of cars,” she said.

According to the most recent numbers from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, 7,900 cars passed through Overlook Road in 2014.

A spokesman for the agency said there was an increase of 500 cars from 2010 to 2014.

The agency recently changed the traffic pattern to give drivers another left turn lane.

“I think it’s going to be a vast improvement over what has been happening in the past, which is traffic backing up,” said Reese.

It could help with one problem, but she and many of her neighbors still see another.

“We're not anti-development. We just want it to be reasonable, responsible and sustainable, and it's not,” said Dana Bell, who lives nearby.

They both also want more communication from the developers.

An attorney representing the developers said the team wanted to meet with neighbors before the plans were submitted last week but schedules didn’t align.

“We are very open to meeting with Vijay and all the neighbors out there, and we’ve scheduled that meeting for the 31st,” said Derek Allen.
