The Asheville Holiday Parade is happening Saturday, Nov. 18, and city officials are advising people to plan ahead for street closures and bus route changes.

The parade, put on by the Asheville Downtown Association, is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The route runs up Biltmore Avenue to Pack Square, then turns to go down Patton Avenue.

There are 100 entries in this year's parade, including marching bands and dancers. Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do instructors and dozens of practitioners of all ages will be marching -- and showing off some moves -- in the parade.

"When we come marching along in this mass, and there's all these different types of us, then, folks in the crowd, they can pick out somebody in there and say, 'You know, that's just like me. Maybe I can do that,'" Master Tony Morris, who owns Sun Soo Tae Kwon Do, said.

The City of Asheville said hundreds of people attend the parade, so commuters should expect traffic impacts.

Starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, South Charlotte Street will be closed for parade set-up. Pack Square (the streets of North and South Pack Square) will also close beginning at 7 a.m.

The parade route along Biltmore and Patton will fully close at 9:30 a.m. and remain closed until the end of the parade.

Pack Square will remain closed after the parade where Santa will visit with children. The Winter Lights Downtown lighting ceremony will follow at 6 p.m.
