Suspect in custody after Weaverville bank robbery, police say
WEAVERVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
One man is in custody after an armed robbery at a Weaverville bank on Wednesday.
Weaverville police were dispatched to the Wells Fargo Bank on Weaver Boulevard around 10:15 a.m.
Authorities say the suspect, Andrew Shawn Penland, 51, entered the bank with a handgun and demanded money from the teller. They said Penland was arrested minutes after the robbery, about 100 yards away from the bank.
No injuries were reported in connection with this incident.
Penland was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and is in custody at the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $100,000 bond.
