Students at Vance Elementary School have been learning about North Carolina artist Colleen Woodward.

They watched a video of her creating her tiny artwork. And, on her website, the students noticed a raffle. They entered their school in the Art-o-Mat contest -- and won.

But instead of donating a painting to the school, Woodward sent a mini painting for every student in the class.

Students said they love how the artist combined art and science

"It's more to learn because she writes these little facts. Like, mine says the sun is more than a million times the size of Earth," fourth-grader Paxton said.

"So, she probably had to do a lot of research on the internet to find all of these cool facts and to show what it would look like on art," Siena, a fourth-grader , said.

But the school won't be left out. Woodward has a 16x20 peice of artwork that will be sent to the school.

Click here to see Woodward's June newsletter, in which the students are mentioned.
