Authorities are on the scene of an accident involving a bicyclist and a car on Amboy Road near short Michigan Avenue.

Asheville police said an 18-year-old was riding his bike on Short Michigan toward Carrier Park about 7 p.m. Monday and did not stop for the stop sign at Amboy Road. The teen, who was not wearing a helmet, hit the side of the car, police said.

Authorities said the bicyclist was transported to Mission Hospital with head injuries. He is expected to survive. The driver of the car was not hurt.

A woman trained in CPR was nearby and heard the crash. She ran to help the victim.

"I was just riding down the greenway and heard a crunch and saw people gathered," Leisa Jackson said. "I'm certified in CPR, and, when you're certified, you just want to go see if you can help. And there was a young man, right there in the intersection, no helmet."

No charges have been filed.
